The United Way of Washington County, TN has been in existence since 1930. It started as the Johnson City Community Chest, began using the name United Way in 1972, and officially adopted the Johnson City Area United Way, Inc. name in 1974. The organization officially adopted the name United Way of Washington County, TN, Inc. in January 2009.
The United Way of Washington County, TN is not only responsible for fund raising and the distribution of those funds to our member agencies; we also administer the Heisse-Johnson Hand Up Fund and the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program of FEMA.
Our Board of Directors is proud of the services our partner agencies provide to those in need in our community and are excited about the potential growth of those services and agencies.

United Way of Washington County TN, Inc. 2009 Name Change
As of January 1, 2009, the Johnson City Area United Way became the United Way of Washington County TN, Inc. The name was changed in order for it to more closely represent the service areas.
